Board Member Vacancies

Being a Board Member of Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta can be a most satisfying and rewarding experience that helps shape education of our young people.  There are currently over 90 schools providing Irish-medium education to almost 7,500 students at pre-school, primary and post primary levels and we want to build upon our success to date.

Our current Board representatives have given outstanding service on a voluntary basis, over the last eight years and their positions on the Board are currently being recruited.

The Board is the representative body for Irish-language medium education in Northern Ireland and is seeking to fill two vacancies as well as representative to become Board Members from each of the following stakeholder bodies:

  • Parent representative
  • Post Primary School sector
  • School Governor
  • 2 General Representatives

We are seeking Board Members who have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to perform effectively as a board member of a public body.  Board Members who do not have Irish can be supported by providing translations of the meetings and documents as required.

Candidates are expected to uphold our values as well as generally accepted principles of public life (the Nolan Principles).

The appointment is for an initial period of four years which may be renewable. Training and development is provided to support the effectiveness of the Board.  In the case of disability, we will make every effort to provide whatever reasonable support any Member of the Board may need to help them carry out their duties.
